The journey to this decision was slow and long. Since Q4 last year, I started thinking about my place in the design economy. I’m not afraid of AI taking over my job (yet). In fact, I think the design landscape today is as exciting as it was five years ago when I first ventured into UI/UX during the pandemic. Back then, there were plenty of opportunities from tech companies and VCs hiring designers and developers to build new products. Today, I see the same thing happening. AI is opening up (and also eliminating) different kinds of possibilities. We now have what we call “vibe coders” and “designers.” But beyond that, we’ll need to build a whole new subset of digital products to cater to automations and operations. This means there will be more emphasis on creating a good agent experience rather than just focusing on the user experience.
What I’m trying to say is that the world has gotten so much bigger, and it’s time for me to figure out where I fit in this giant puzzle.
